Beach Therapy

Do you feel more relaxed when you go to the beach?  The soothing sound of the waves crashing on the shore can lull you into a relaxed state, reducing your stress levels.  Watching seagulls soaring overhead is calming.  Staring at the vastness of the ocean helps put your problems in perspective.  As you are reading this, just the thought of being at the beach has probably already made you feel less stressed.  In fact, picturing the ocean is common in many relaxation exercises.  Yes, the mind is a powerful thing.

Sunlight provides nourishment for the skin, with its vitamin D-producing benefits.  Of course, you don’t want to spend more than 20 minutes outside without sunscreen.  Being outside in the sunlight also helps with depression.

Walking/running barefoot on the sand has many benefits:

  • Stimulates the nerve endings in your feet
  • Is great exercise and burns more calories that walking on a hard surface
  • Is even better exercise if you walk/run through the water due to its resistance
  • Connects you to the earth’s natural energy
  • Is a natural exfoliant for your skin

The beach is open year-round!  So, what are you waiting for?  When is your next trip to the beach?

Here’s to your health
