Houston Astros and Enjoying the Journey

Speaking as a native Houstonian, I want to start off by saying how proud I am of our Houston Astros winning the World Series last night for the first time in franchise history!  The work and dedication it took for them to get to this place is remarkable.

It also takes work and dedication to be healthy.  For the Astros, they enjoy what they do so they don’t mind doing what it takes.  Becoming healthy is easier if you are enjoying the journey.  Eating foods that are tasty, as well as good for you, and finding exercises that you enjoy doing is the key.

When I started this journey, I had to figure out a way to get exercise into my very busy day.  I enjoy cycling but never seemed to have time to ride very much.  Since I work from home most days, I decided an indoor recumbent bike would be the answer.  I found a table to put over it for my computer, but it wasn’t tall enough to ride without hitting my knees on the bottom of it.  I went to Home Depot and asked an employee there to help me build a stand to lift the table.  Now it is the perfect height.  I have a picture of it at My Story.

I was determined to try to work and ride at the same time.  When I started, I could only do a few minutes at a time because I wasn’t used to it.  It took some time, and patience, but I now am able to ride for several miles each day while I work.  I take lots of breaks so that I don’t overdo it, but it is nice to finally be able to do the exercise that I love to do.  During some of my breaks, I turn on music and dance, which is also a favorite.  The point is – move your body and have fun doing it!

Here’s to your health!
